Classroom Activity Ideas:

*Display your postcards in a postcard pocket chart. This one has 50 spaces (perfect for this project). If you don't receive a postcard from some states, you can give out blank postcards to your students and have them research those states and create their own postcard. If there are only a few missing, this can be a group project or something to offer for extra credit.

*Use this blank bulletin board puzzle to show off what you've learned about each state.

*Create a class scrapbook

*Make a bulletin board display by connecting the postcard to it's corresponding state on a map using a piece of colored yarn.

*Get a blank map and color in each state as you receive the postcard. Or use this magnetic map puzzle . You can put each piece in it's place once you've received a postcard.

*Journal about each postcard as it is received. "I would (or would not) like to live in _________ because_______"

*Have students create a brochure or poster

*Create a mural with your state symbols

*Use an atlas or an online map program (such as Mapquest) to figure out driving distances to each school. Which school is closest to your school? Which is farthest away?

*Have each student pick 2 post cards and complete a compare/contrast project

*Learn the 50 states and capitol cities

*Write the names of the states on index cards and pass out to students. Play a song that lists the states and have students stand up as their state is mentioned.

*Visit websites on the 50 states.

*Have a design contest for your postcard and print out some of the winning designs to send out.
